Hugh Jackman Confirms Darren Aronofsky for Wolverine 2

Hugh Jackman has officially confirmed that Black Swandirector Darren Aronofsky will helm the upcoming Marvel sequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2. The actor revealed the news to New York Magazine at last night’s Enduring Vision gala held by Elton John.

Hugh Jackman is currently bulking up to reprise his role as Logan in the anticipated sequel, which he claims will be much darker than 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It won’t be the “usual” X-Men movie this time around,Jackman promises:

“This is, hopefully for me, going to be out of the box. It’s going to be the best one. Well, I would say that, but I really do feel that, and I feel this is going to be very different. This is Wolverine. This is not Popeye. He’s kind of dark. But, you know, this is a change of pace. Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects, has written the script, so that’ll give you a good clue. [Darren Aronofsky’s] going to make it fantastic. There’s going to be some meat on the bones. There will be something to think about as you leave the theater, for sure.”

Hugh Jackman and Darren Aronofsky are already in the middle of pre-production on X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, with the sequel set to begin shooting in early 2011.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Hugh Jackman.
